Our very own People Development team answered some questions and without further ado let's dive into this Q&A session where we uncover the keys to seamless onboarding.
Q: How do you define successful onboarding?
A: A successful onboarding means setting employees up for success right from day one by promoting synergies and fostering a collaborative, purposeful environment. It's about creating a welcoming journey where new joiners feel valued, connected to the organization's culture, and equipped with the information and tools needed to excel in their roles.
Q: What are the three key elements to follow when onboarding a new employee?
A: The key elements in onboarding include starting with the contract signature and creating a meaningful pre-boarding experience. Ensure access to information, tools, and hardware is available from day one or even before. Lastly, build a cohesive journey that empowers new employees to connect, embrace the culture, and make a meaningful impact.
Q: Why is onboarding so important for an organization?
A: Onboarding is crucial for organizations because it reduces employee turnover, accelerates productivity and job proficiency, fosters employee engagement and satisfaction, contributes to a positive company culture, and ensures compliance with policies and regulations.
Q: Are there different approaches for senior and junior roles in onboarding?
A: Yes, we differentiate between Individual Contributors and Leaders in our onboarding process. While there's a robust six-month program that is relevant for everyone, there's a specific leadership path with additional sessions to set leaders up for success. Even senior employees are encouraged to go through the program to understand how Personio works, engage with the culture, and build connections. Looking ahead, we plan to create a more dedicated path for interns and working students.
Q: What are the current challenges of the onboarding process?
A: Some challenges include coordinating logistics for global onboarding across 8 different locations, including remote. Ensuring a consistent onboarding experience across different locations and teams is also a challenge. Tailoring onboarding to meet the diverse needs of employees can be complex. Keeping up with changing regulations, compliance requirements, and evolving session content as Personio continually changes adds to the challenges.
Q: How has remote onboarding been for your organisation?
A: When COVID-19 hit, we optimized onboarding for remote, streamlining the overall experience. We incorporated multiple touchpoints throughout the journey to help new joiners connect globally. Now, even though we're back in the office, we continue remote onboarding to ensure the same experience as in-office, with the added human touch. Instructor-led trainings are also kept remote for consistency.
