Dear Community,

how do you stay up-to-date with what's going on in the company and other departments? E-mail, intranet or exchanges during the coffee break? ☕️

What does internal communication look like in your company? Do you have regulated processes and instruments that you use to communicate information? 🗣️

😇 We’ll cover the first questions about internal communication in advance:

1️⃣ What does "internal communication" actually mean?

Internal communication is a corporate communication tool. It uses clearly defined media and communication channels to convey relevant messages and ensures communication between organisational management and staff. At best, the company's goals are communicated through this organised exchange of information. In addition to formal communication - i.e. the official channels used by a company - informal communication is also a component of internal communication, also known as “corridor talk” or in-house communication.

2️⃣ What kind of internal communication instruments are there?

There is (unfortunately) not just one solution or best way to pass on information to employees. Nevertheless there are many possibilities which include:

Internal communication tools: Analogue

  • Bulletin board
  • Posters
  • Letters
  • Staff magazine / staff newspaper
  • Corridor talk

Internal communication tools: Digital

  • E-mail
  • Intranet
  • Employee app (GDPR-compliant)
  • Company Wiki
  • Video Conferencing

3️⃣ Advantages & Numbers

According to a study by our client Haiilo, employees are on average 20-25% more productive in organisations with effective internal communications than in companies where employees are not connected.
In this study, 85% of employees also say they are the most motivated when management and executives regularly inform them about news in the company.
When employees spend up to 2.5 hours a day (!!) searching for information, this has a significant impact on the productivity of the entire organisation.

Reason enough to address the topic - right? 🤔

What are your thoughts on this topic?
Feel free to discuss it with us in the comments!👇 I'm curious to see how the internal communication looks like in your companies.

1️⃣ What does "internal communication" actually mean to me?

Communications that are for internal consumption only.
It can use several formal and informal tools and channels.
There are All-Company, Functional, Team and Territory ICs.

The topic, theme, agenda varies from being solely on internal news to potentially discussing something with reference to a competitor or wider global event.

2️⃣ Why is effective IC so important?

It helps a company and its people connect - over things other than simply the task of work itself.
IC can help form two-way channels to better share feedback, collaboration, objectives etc.

As mentioned, without effective IC although people know what their day-to-day job role and responsibilities are the lack of engagement by the company to the person and vice versa also impacts productivity.

The probability of great work is a combination of Engagement and Focus.

With Engagement you have people wanting to do work, with Focus that desire is targetted. In combination the probability is vastly greater than simply be either Engaged or Focussed.
