SMTP Authentication Issue

Hello,

I ve been trying last couple of days to find out what is wrong with the SMTP connection.

It was working normally and all of a suddent it stopped.. So I was trying to reconnect ti by reapply some mappings in our IDP or remove the SMTP and readd it but all failed..

The error I am getting is :

Reason:

Failed to authenticate on SMTP server with username "karriere@cerascreen.de" using the following authenticators: "LOGIN", "PLAIN", "XOAUTH2". Authenticator "LOGIN" returned "Expected response code "235" but got code "535", with message "535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. For more information, go to 535 5.7.8 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials r11-20020a05600c35cb00b004127057d6b9sm5361583wmq.35 - gsmtp".". Authenticator "PLAIN" returned "Expected response code "235" but got code "535", with message "535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. For more information, go to 535 5.7.8 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials r11-20020a05600c35cb00b004127057d6b9sm5361583wmq.35 - gsmtp".". Authenticator "XOAUTH2" returned "Expected response code "235" but got code "334", with message "334 eyJzdGF0dXMiOiI0MDAiLCJzY2hlbWVzIjoiQmVhcmVyIiwic2NvcGUiOiJodHRwczovL21haWwuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8ifQ==".".

Welcome to the Personio Community, we are thrilled to see you here 🎊 🥳. I am happy to support you with your inquiry.

When it comes to SMTP I am quite limited in the support I can give on this from here. What I have experienced with another customer recently is whereby they were using App Passwords in Google. If you copy the password from Google it will be 19 characters long, as it copies blank spaces as well. It should only be 16 characters long so if you are using this please type it in without spaces.

Following up on this, here is our guide on Troubleshoot SMTP configuration issues which provides additional troubleshooting tips. In terms of authentication issues with the email provider, if none of these work I would reach out directly to the Google Support team.
