By the sounds of it the API is pulling from the salary tab, this would not take into account any leave periods and you would need to process the deduction to salary in the salary tab in order for the API to work the way you want it to.

In this case, I would suggest you create a support request via Help & Feedback. Help & Feedback > Browse for help > Contact us
This will allow us to investigate the specifics or submit a feedback to the Product Development Team like you say.
