Question

Can HR manually assign subordinates to be evaluated, instead of the supervisor?

In our company, we would like the HR department to have control over who evaluates whom in performance review cycles.

Specifically, we would like HR to be able to manually assign subordinates to reviewers, rather than having these relationships automatically determined by the direct supervisor.

Is there currently a way in Personio to let HR configure or override these reviewer–reviewee assignments manually?
If not, is such a feature planned for future updates?

Hi @Pat_Legal,

I’m Milan, Product Manager at Personio. Thanks for raising this! Could you share more about your organization’s structure and processes? I’m curious - what’s driving your preference for reviewers beyond direct supervisors in Manager reviews? Is this tied to your organizational setup, or do you operate in a project-based environment? Do you run 360 reviews, or Manager reviews only?

As a workaround, you can leverage Peer Reviews to manually nominate specific individuals to evaluate cycle participants. This gives HR full control over reviewer assignments.

On a related note, in 2026 we’re planning to introduce functionality that allows multiple supervisors to contribute to a single employee’s Manager review. If you’ve already configured these relationships in the Org Chart, this will work seamlessly once rolled out.

Excited to learn more about your needs so we can ensure Personio supports your workflows effectively.

Best regards,

Good morning Milan, nice to meet you. Let me give you a bit more detail: We will be implementing a 270-degree performance review process for managers. In this process, there will be evaluations from subordinates, as well as self-evaluation and evaluation by the supervisor. We will define exactly which employees will evaluate each manager — it will be a specific number of people and specific individuals, selected manually.

I’ve run some tests and it seems it’s not possible to schedule the launch of a subordinate review process using the subordinate records. Based on what you mentioned, the solution within the current platform would be to use Peer Reviews instead of Subordinate Reviews.

My question is whether Peer Reviews can also be scheduled — meaning, preparing all managers to be evaluated, manually assigning all the subordinates who will act as peers, and then scheduling the cycle to be launched at a later date.

If I’ve misunderstood anything or if you recommend any adjustment, I’d appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Patricia
