Good morning and happy Monday, everyone!

To start off your week, I’d like to invite you to join us for our first Personio Ask Me Anything (AMA) event! 🤩

For the next few months, we’ll be having a regular schedule of these AMAs so that you can ask our Product Managers your Personio-related questions. Learn more here.

So, how are we doing this?

From today until Friday, September 26th, we’ll leave this topic open so that community members can ask their questions related to each AMA’s theme in the comments. This week, we’re focusing on the Performance and Development module. Speaking of which, let’s meet this week’s hosts, shall we?

You’ll be hearing from @daniel.boon, @Milan, and @Camille Merritt, our resident experts on all things P&D. 😄

Go ahead and ask your questions by leaving a comment below!

To kick us off, I’ll go ahead and tag a few of our members:

@SabbuSchreiber @HRJoy @HRHappiness @andra.enache @LegoMD @Edda van der Ende @rstambolieva @xtine08 @HRMP @vesna_hr

In one of the recent update emails, there was mention of integrating the Performance and/or Goals areas more into individual Profiles, so that performance reviews and goals don’t sit completely separately to the employee. Are you able to provide an update on when this might be rolled out?

Hi @HRJoy – great question and one that has been top of mind for our team. We have a few plans for Goals in the coming months. First we plan to show goals directly in the performance review cycle in the contextual side panel for managers and employees. We are hoping to complete towards the end of Q4. Going into the new year we are planning a larger upgrade the entire Goals product, including improving the overall navigation, modernizing the look and feel of the product, and investing in clearer workflows (like simplifying how Goals are configured and edited). This work is planned for the first half of 2026.

I am interested in the connection between performance and development and learning.

Do we have any plans to develop the integration between these areas?

Also me - It would be great to have an update on timings around the scheduling for performance improvement / coaching type cycles and probation cycles as they are currently not flexible enough - we are having to set up individual cycles for each new starter or for any new PIPs

Me again (!) this is my most favourite subject!

Is there a way that goals can be extended, currently as i have been using them, we have to stick to the original dates entered when the goal was set up.  if you go past this date it moves into past goals even if it is not yet complete.

Life isnt like that - things get pushed, extended and not completed in time.

Hey @fmason, we’re currently exploring our options for a solution here to save admin effort and simplify performance processes like probation reviews. This is high up on our roadmap - we’re hoping to roll out a solution end Q4 2025/beginning Q1 2026. I’d love to chat more with you about this - please feel free to book in a call if you’re interested.

You’re totally right on that one! Unfortunately it’s currently not possible to change/extend the dates of goals (only duplicate and set a new timeframe), but as @Camille Merritt mentioned we have plans to revisit the goals experience in the first half of 2026, which will include solving issues like this.

Thanks for all the great questions @fmason. I’ll respond to all of them in this post:

Right now we are focusing on a few integrations in the P&D product. The top priorities for the next 3-6 months are:

  • Surfacing feedback and a link to performance on the primary employee profile
  • Showing career frameworks and competencies in Performance and within reviews
  • Showing Goals in reviews
  • Investing in competency-based reviews

We haven’t invested directly in Learning just yet, but we do anticipate making this a higher priority towards the second half of next year.

You are not alone in this request! We are in the process of better understanding how we can improve our cycles to be a bit more flexible and scalable, with probation reviews being top of mind. If this is something you’re interested in sharing feedback on, feel free to ping me directly (camille.merritt@personio.com) and I’ll get you in touch with the right folks on our team.

You are reading our minds! We are definitely aware that Goals are not flexible enough today. We expect to invest very heavily in improving the Goals experience starting in Q1 of next year with a focus on navigation, set up, and management of existing goals. Same offer stands – feel free to message me directly and I can connect you to the team to share some feedback.

Keep the questions coming!

-Camille
